The designs for the Construction Certificate (CC) are progressing reasonably well. The good news is that we are finally starting to talk about altar fitments, floor finishes, decorative glass panels etc. The bad news is that the CC is about 4 weeks behind schedule. The delays are mostly due to further changes to the Car Park drainage and compliance with the Council's environmental rating regulations (section J).
Detailed design of the Presbytery is almost complete, and so are the Architectural, Structural and Landscaping designs. The main focus of the design is now moving to Church internal design, heating /cooling, lighting and audio visual equipment. Without going into further detail, the documentation needs to be submitted to the quantity surveyor for costing and then on to the Diocesan office for approval. After this process we should then be in a position to call for tenders from builders in about 8 weeks' time. The actual construction phase should start soon after. A rough estimate is that from start to finish, construction will take about one year to complete. More detailed time projections will be given when the CC is complete. The setup of the altar area, internal layouts and general finishes of the Church have been approved by the diocesan liturgical expert Fr Peter Williams. An acoustic report is due this week and this will help decide the materials to be used for the internal walls and ceiling of the church. Some of the features proposed for the church at the last meeting include a polished concrete floor finish with a series of granite borders and a carpeted central aisle and altar area. If you would like to know more about the work progress feel free to contact me. Regards Frank Zammit Parish Building Committee |
