The Pilgrimage to Italy began on the 5th October, 2008 with 31 Sydneyites , 2 Melbournians, and 2 Canadians. We arrived in Milan airport and boarded the coach, heading off to the first port of call, Turin.

TURIN is the home of the famous Shroud of Turin, the burial cloth of Christ. It bears the image of a crucified man who is believed to be Jesus of Nazareth. Modern science has completed hundreds of thousands of hours of detailed and intense research on the Shroud. It is, in fact, the single most studied artifact in human history, and we know more about it today than ever before.

The implications are explosive and exciting. Christianity is a like a tapestry of diverse beliefs which is tautly stretched between modern versions and biblical literalism. There seem to be many contradictory conclusions to centuries of testing but research has established that the Shroud cannot be man-made by any technique or science. The authenticity of the Shroud with its images has been proved to be genuine and not a fake, a fraud or imitation.

We attended mass in the Ancient Chapel of the Holy Shroud built 1491-1498, which is the final resting place of the Holy Shroud and visited the Museum and had a first hand guide with a very knowledgeable nun. Turin was a peaceful city and has varied industries, including the Fiat and Lancia car plants, factories manufacturing engines, rolling stock, electricity corporation, plants producing man made fibers, woolen and cotton mills and the renowned Martini & Rossi Cinzano.
